The National Planning Commission has called for an 'energy emergency' to end load shedding within the next two years. The plan calls for the construction of 10,000MW of solar and wind power and 5,000MW of battery storage to be built urgently. | Fin24

New wind and photovoltaic power could be built within two years

The NPC advises government on the long term development issues of the country, specifically the implementation of the National Development Plan. It is chaired by Minister in the Presidency Mondli Gungubele. Energy experts have been warning that this will not be sufficient to end load shedding in the next two years. As Eskom's plants are on a deteriorating trend, load shedding will grow more intense unless substantial new capacity is built.

Fin24 This is absolute rubbish!

Fin24 Renewable is not reliable power source, is not going to stop any loadshedding, actually if it replaces coal power stations loadshedding will be a forever thing, its already happening in Ghana.

Fin24 Gwede Mantashe will block this plan. He wants his Karpowership deal. It will set him up nicely for retirement.

Fin24 It is not their responsibilty, they must go and do their allocated job. NPC has no role in this

Fin24 F*K IPPs

Fin24 Illusion of knowledge is the most dangerous threat humankind is facing. Kunzima 🤞🏽.

Fin24 They cannot organize a booze-up in a Tops store. Give up

Fin24 10 years from now we'll be sitting in the dark talking about their 2 year plan. I'll believe it when I see it.

Fin24 Planning. Discussing. Proposing. All meaningless. Just do. Shut up.

Fin24 Your government is going to steal the money, don't fool yourself.

Fin24 Good proposals from NPC - we need to invoke emergency powers, do away with unnecessary regulatory constraints and ramp up renewables as fast as is humanly possible

Fin24 First end the budget shedding

Fin24 This government must stop pleasing neighboring countries at our expenses

Fin24 Rather establish a National corrupt ANC regime re-call Commission. DrainTheSwamp2022 VoetsekANC110 VoetsekNCCC Re-call it NOW.

Fin24 Hhhhhhhawu they'll steal the batteries nkosyami.

Fin24 Can someone explain to me wtf 5000MW of energy storage is exactly?

Bass_Mad Fin24 Loadshedding is causing damage

Fin24 What VAX24 doesnt mention is you and me as Tax payers will be footing the bill. The Government have NO MONEY , its all Tax Payer Money 🤫

Fin24 Considering how long it took this useless government to build one power station well over budget that still does not work. Don't they think they are cutting themselves short on this deal with such a small budget and short time line. Corruption is real

Fin24 While the rest of the world was searching and inventing new ways to supply energy to their people, this goons were running coal mines and depending on infrastructure the Boers built decades ago.instead of running with the people who knows

Fin24 They must build their own transmission and distribution lines. They must not hijack our assets.

Fin24 Was there no plan in 2015 when Ramaphosa told SA that issues at Eskom will be a thing of the past?

Fin24 Thisbis just what we need... do it now plz

Fin24 So these socialists had a meeting (dialogue) and made a “call” to end load shedding. Are they capable of implementing any actions?

Fin24 as long as Jeff can award the tenders .. has anyone checked if the IPP tenders are fair to the taxpayer ?!

Fin24 The country is being sold to friends infront of our eyes. Motsipe has huge interest in renewables.

Fin24 Finally some common sense from the MYANC

Fin24 EVENTUALY!!!!

Fin24 As I'm viewing this I'm expecting loadshedding in 20mins😂😂🤟 so until it's implemented I doubt I will work 😐

Fin24

Fin24 This was the original plan to collapse the utility and make way for IPP's.

Fin24 Hurrah....will believe it when it happens. Wonder how much tender corruption will happen this time 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Fin24 Question why did it take 15 years to decide on this...ANSWER 2024 is around the corner if they don't do something now to win back voters they gonna LOSE. Fear can be a very good motivator 😅

Fin24 The moment I saw 'Government Pla....' I realised this chit is not gonna fly. Gwede will never allow it. He only want ships. He need SA to fold. As for why? I doubt even he knows.

Fin24 Emergency = looting

Fin24 We need a functioning government. That’s what’s missing.

Fin24 Ooh, the time line. Is there a subcommittee busy with a flood of reason in 23 months why we're not reaching our target 🤔.

Fin24 Wouldn't it make more sense to first build those factories that would supply us with solar panels, turbines etc?

Fin24 Why only now? They should have done this years ago. Backup alternative electricity power plants for SA. Let's do it! Urgently. 👍

Fin24 Will CyrilRamaphosa do the smart thing and listen to the NPC?

Fin24 We've had plans like this gathering dust for decades..problem is that the cadres cannot loot the sun..coal is much easier.

Fin24 Two years they say. It will take two years just for the approval to make its way through the various government departments as each one would want a slice of the pie. Then the tender process could take just as long.

Fin24 They need to do careful homework before millions are given to buddies for contracts - solar is good but wind energy isn't what it's made out to be - very very costly with much lower outputs

Fin24 Let all households install solar geysers and deduct this amount from tax

Fin24 That will fall on deaf ears, if it's actioned then the anc will do everything possible to loot the funds taxpayers pay to make that possible via corruption and cadre deployment

Fin24 🥱🥱

Fin24 Right now even if we could generate power from free farts it would be corrupted by the ANC

Fin24 After 13 years of failing to resolve load shedding and failure to complete Medupi and Kusile on time, it is now that they think of emergency plans. Give that project triple or more the time set, not forgetting that government would be accumulating more debt.

Fin24 It will the MYANC two years just to discuss it.

Fin24 Make sure the thieves don’t get hold of any copper wires or batteries

Fin24 Green corruption loading...

Fin24 Blah blah blah blah. Its not happening under the ANC government people. The only way out is to vote DA 2024. The ANC has had 15 years to solve the energy crisis. Why would it be fixed in 2 years? Stop trying to fool SA.

Fin24 They said EXACTLY the same thing 5 years ago about Madupi power plant now its 400 billion in dept and not operating WHEN WILL PEOPLE LEARN THEIR LESSON YOU CANT BUILD ANYTHING WITH THESE CORRUPT CLOWNS IN POWER

Fin24 didn't they think about that 11 year's ago when loadshedding started?...the damage is far greater now and will last for decades....

Fin24 R17,000 is what i never expected. Thanks Mr Jackson for putting undying smile into my face JacksonMooreq

Fin24 jissis could have been done 15 years ago but hey, coal tenders for guptas ne

Fin24 stop the bogggom - boggom and bring the price down .

Fin24 Nonsense !

Fin24 CapeIndependence is coming

Fin24 How many times have we heard of these “plans”? It’s just rhetoric to keep the masses pacified. Nothing will every change under the leadership of criminals.

Fin24 Checkmate

Fin24 About 10 years late but hey

Fin24 This has been in Europe for years and works well

JuneEightySeven Fin24 Mxm, we’ve had load shedding for 10 years. What were they doing this whole time ?

Fin24 And in 2 years time we’ll have a news story of funds going missing and even more half completed projects and that not a single person was out in jail. Just more of the same. Nothing but corruption will ever get better with the ANC in charge…

Fin24 To the people saying : 'we need a baseload' ... Western Australian Gold Mine now completely running of renewables (solar)

Fin24 Julle almal se ma se poes

Fin24 What happened to the Eskom 'War Room' set up in 2015 headed up by Cyril Ramaphosa?

Fin24 VoetsekANC can taste the loot

Fin24 🤣🤣🤣 this could have been done 10 years ago if it wasn’t for the black elite cANCers who BLOCKED this proposal!

Fin24 In two years time, an insight commission will be set up to establish why the planning commission never addressed the power crisis but cost the tax payer Billions. Nothing will change under the ANC. Stop thinking it will.

Fin24 Why only now? Was the anc too busy filling their own pockets for the last 20yrs to stop loadshedding?

Fin24 They must first plan for tenders before they can plan for commissioning.

Fin24 Lol the renewables loot spree is incoming

Fin24 ANC plan to loot

Fin24 How long will this take? So loadshedding continues?

Fin24 WoW only now it is an emergency 😦

Fin24 😂
