The rescue and recovery operations at the collapsed five story building site on 75 Victoria Street have officially concluded after 260 hours since 6 May, with the site being classified as a crime scene and being handed over to the South African Police Service for a formal investigation.
Currently, 62 individuals have been confirmed to be on-site on 17 May at 9am at the end of the rescue and recovery operations. The municipality has acknowledged that as the incident unfolded, the numbers ‘fluctuated’, but has confirmed that ‘only 62 individuals are accounted for’.
