Gauteng Premier David Makhura says the province's best case scenario would see 890 000 people lose their jobs, while the worst case scenario could see as many as two million jobs lost. | Day54ofLockdown

Gauteng Premier David Makhura has warned that massive job losses would hit the country’s economic hub as the impact of the coronavirus pandemic continues to damage the economy.

Of the 7 million projected job losses due to Covid-19 in South Africa, Makhura said many of them would be in the province. DA caucus leader Solly Msimanga said the provincial government had to proactively put measures in place to mitigate the effect of the pandemic on the economy, including in the way it used the Covid-19 funds.

Despite quickly becoming the country's Covid-19 epicentre soon after its first confirmed case on March 7, Gauteng has since seen a gradual decrease in infection rates while other provinces, including the Western Cape and the Eastern Cape, continue to see a surge in infections.

It's nice to speak from a position of priviledge

That's the entire workforce of Gauteng mos.

Which country is willing and ready to open its Borders and welcome as well as employ 10 Million unemployed Azanians, and give them free health, free education, Social Security Grants and allow them to own Spaza Shops?

Haha... ostrich with his head in the sand and all you can see is an ass... dream on...

Useless premier!

If David_Makhura & GeoffMakhubo has the political will, then they ll award black smmes 70% of the tender budget & create 2million jobs, as opposed to giving the tenders to blue chip companies who cut jobs for profit. Cc Julius_S_Malema FloydShivambu MbuyiseniNdlozi

Will the Gauteng Province still continue to employ individuals from other countries when Thousands or possibly Millions of Azanians will be unemployed?

What if I told you that by ending the lockdown you will save lives and livelihoods...

890000 'best case' Not good enough

Holly Shit 😳🙆‍♂️
