A newly launched ePetition system will be used by Gauteng residents to complain about service delivery issues to local government officials.

The system aims to streamline petition management processes across the province, increase trust and promote democracy. The provincial legislature of Gauteng, the province’s governing body, has announced the launch of a new digital system where residents can send petitions to government officials. This new system, called the “ePetition” system is primarily for residents to voice their service delivery concerns.

Gauteng government adds that the system “aims to streamline the petitions management process, allowing for efficient monitoring and tracking of interventions to ensure timely resolution of all petitions.”. They will first have to create an account on the official Gauteng legislature website before they can use the system.

Unhappy residents of the province have thus far been forced to complain to their local councillors if they have issues with service delivery. Many complaints fall on deaf ears, and there’s no promise that the ePetition system will make any difference to those without water due to infrastructure degradation or without power due to lagging repairs.a series of interventions made in partnership with the Department of Water and Sanitation to maintain and increase water supply to the city.
