JOHANNESBURG - With just 19 days to go before this year's hotly contested elections, Gauteng police said they had ticked all the boxes to ensure the safety of electorates.
The briefing also aimed to bring confidence and comfort to voters by ensuring that they feel safe while exercising their right to vote. Come 27 May, which marks the beginning of special voting, some of the 64 national key points, such as the reserve bank, will benefit from bolstered police surveillance.
This was one of the many initiatives put in place by newly-appointed provincial police commissioner Lieutenant-General Tommy Mthombeni, who said that the men and women in blue were more than ready for the elections."There are specific national key points where we have protection security services where they are there for 24/7, like your Union Building."
Mthombeni said that police would continue to work with various stakeholders, including the Electoral Commission , in the build-up to the elections.
