What began as the firing of two longtime Twitter engineers after they criticised their new boss has turned into a purge, as Elon Musk clamps down on internal and external dissent.

In the past 24 hours, an estimated dozen or so employees have been let go after openly rebuking Musk, who has called himself a “free speech absolutist”, according to two people familiar with the matter. Musk and Twitter haven’t confirmed the firings, but employees have been monitoring the situation through public tweets and private messages.

On Monday morning, Musk wrote that Frohnhoefer had been fired. Frohnhoefer retweeted that post, and included a saluting emoji that many employees used when they were laid off earlier this month. Twitter and Frohnhoefer didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment on his status. “My Twitter account was protected at the time, so I can only assume this was for not showing 100% loyalty in Slack,” he tweeted, referring to Twitter’s internal company communications. Morgan and Solomon could not be reached for comment.

You shit on your boss on social media and expect to keep your job? 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Whats the world coming into 🙄🙄🙄

Shees. I followed the tweets. This isn't even close to what the full exchange was. Damn I hate hit pieces.

From what I see, they are making it clear they don’t want to work for him, and elonmusk is solving that dilemma for them. If I bitched about my boss through public channels, I wouldn’t expect to be kept on

Elon Musk fires engineers after they criticise him on TwitterTwitter Inc. owner Elon Musk, who has called himself a “free speech absolutist,” has resorted to firing company engineers who publicly criticise him on the social media service. I believe has missed a key part of the story. He called elonmusk out but was wrong. I believe this should have been included in the hit piece. people seem to forget that the right to freedom of speech is delicately balanced by the right to shut the fuck up twttr only needed so many people because they've silo'd teams with a silo'd microservices arch - can't have a free lunch forever & sowing dissent is bad for the co. Good, get rid of the shit.

Dude has mad self esteem issues Not defending him or anything, but in most jobs if you mess with the CEO you may end up looking for a new job.
