Mthimkhulu had just returned from the USA when she was arrested. She is accused of providing falsified credentials when she applied for a home loan from the bank. She reportedly submitted a false income profile as well as a fake payslip in order to qualify for the said loan valued at R950 000. The bank noticed the discrepancies in the application resulting in a case being registered at Kempton Park police station during August 2017. The Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime investigations ensued culminating in Mthimkhulu’s arrest on 12 August 2022. She appeared in court on numerous occasions but failed to do so on 15 February 2023.

On Thursday, 25 April 2024, the Palm Ridge Commercial Crimes Court sentenced Mthimkhulu to a R20 000 fine alternatively twelve months imprisonment. A further two year sentence was imposed on her, it is however suspended for five years on condition that she refrains from committing fraud during the five year period.The views of authors published on South Africa Today are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of South Africa Today.
