Good idea. We can't boast about national PASS percent of 80 whilst we know deep down that they did not PASS. How can we call 30% or even 28% a PASS. This is a disgrace. Let is fight to bring our country back to quality education

That 50%,is the passing rate in most SADC region countries, I was surprised that here the matric pass rate is very low,will the students and parents accept the proposal, that's another debate.
Education is just a new tool to justify exclusion. Why must I have a 50% matric certificate to be a security guard opening a vehicle gate or a shop assistant changing tires? As a devolving country we need education that makes us better inclusive taxpaying lawabiding citizens.
Achievable especially if we put in the necessary support starting immediately with Matric 2019. Our education system is slipping into ICU if not there already
The hole education system should be changed in that no student should ever fail. The current one size fits all generalized grading system is not producing the results. A grading system where students can decide for themselves what career they'd like to follow should be used.

NiniQhawekazi If you can check ur old matric certificate u will find a pass mark of 30% because we had a down grade system , HG, SG, LG, they 30%is 50%of the other grade

50% pass mark doesn't mean the standard of education is high. More people will fail matric. The fact of the matter is there are different passes for matric, 1. Bachelor pass, 2. Diploma pass and certificate pass. U cant pass matric by getting 33% pass mark as an average.
And those that fail to get 50% what do you do with them?

I believe that's great and very good...Yaz some matriculants passing with Bachelor focus more on the symbol mara don't even qualify for university qualifications bra! Because of the small pass rate shitty rate futhy.
So according to this idiots... It's better to have lots of students who failed matric for failing to meet 50% than to have passed matric with 30% working for thier families
What are we trying to measure here,learner's intelligence or what? 50% means what? The ability to read, write analyze r very important. Show us ur matric results. Every time learners perform well, there r always funny stories said by self-appointed experts
Agreed and applauded!!! You need more than 30% to pass your drivers licence how can you expect anything less from our future Doctors and Lawyers. We need to push the youth to achieve greatness not drop the standards so the pass rate looks good on paper

30% upwards is for tvet,40% upwards is for technology universities and 50% upwards for Universities. If you do not understand the system let old education come where there will be low grade,standard grade and high grade.
Then education must return High grade,standard grade and low grade if that's the case

ThuliMadonsela3 I always tell people that pass mark doesnt matter coz even at 50% you cannot be accepted for medicine for instance... so its up to the learner themselves to work towards the required level for the qualification they to study

Before rushing to agree with this please consider that this was done with some learners with disabilities and learning difficulties in mind.
The only person who is performing is minister not the students.if all this dipartment where to use 30% pass mark they where all going to perform.
