Adopting a healthy lifestyle, such as taking part in regular exercise, could help you live a longer, disease-free life, according to new research.

New research has found that following healthy lifestyle habits, such as not smoking and exercising regularly, can add ten disease-free years to your lifespan.

The researchers looked at five low-risk lifestyle factors — never smoking, maintaining a healthy body mass index , doing at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day, a moderate alcohol intake and a good quality diet — to calculate a healthy lifestyle score for each participant. The scores ranged from 0 to 5, with a higher score indicating a healthier lifestyle.
