This week’s devastating flooding, which has left over 300 people dead, according to latest estimates, is the third major flood disaster in KwaZulu-Natal in the past three years. In April 2019, at least 70 people died after heavy rain triggered mudslides and sinkholes, which also caused major property damage. This was followed by catastrophic flash flooding in parts of the province in November 2021.Subscribe to News24 for just R75 per month to read all our investigative and in-depth journalism.
