Five years on, Minister Chikunga urges drivers to stop Easter holiday road carnage

Minister of Transport Sindisiwe Chikunga has pleaded with motorists who are making their way back from the Easter holidays to respect the rules of the road.

A high decrease in absolute figures has been recorded for KwaZulu-Natal with 13 fatal crashes, followed by Gauteng with 11 fatal crashes. What we actually observed throughout the country is that there is serious reckless driving that is happening, influenced by a number of issues, including drunk driving and speeding, particularly by young people.

Chikunga stated that although they were not yet releasing numbers, they were keeping an eye on the general trends.
