The early hours of Saturday morning saw the fire spark in Baxley Crescent. The City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Department were alerted to the flames, believed to be a house on fire. When they arrived at the scene there was more than one structure alit., several structures were burning. Some of them were destroyed while others were badly damaged.
Jermaine Carelse of City Fire said that 24 firefighters eventually managed to contain and extinguish the fire, but three lives were lost.Meanwhile, in another incident that claimed 21 young South African lives, the East London tavern tragedy has pinned carbon monoxide poisoning as the possible cause.
