An urgent court bid by ailing power utility Eskom, which would have seen electricity prices raised by 16.6% and 16.7% over the next two years, was dismissed by the Pretoria high court on Monday

Without soaring tariff increases, Eskom runs the risk of defaulting on its R441bn debt.An urgent court bid by ailing power utility Eskom, which would have seen electricity prices raised by 16.6% and then another 16.7% over the next two years, was dismissed by the Pretoria high court on Monday.

Judge Jody Kollapen found the matter was not urgent and that the bid to have electricity prices raised would be heard on the normal court roll. In papers before court, Eskom held that without these tariff increases it could default on payments to lenders, triggering the immediate payment of its national debt burden of R318bn, which is guaranteed by the government.

Ramaphosa in favour of Cosatu’s Eskom planThe trade union federation proposes using R250bn of pension money to pay down utility’s debt They need to use their own money not peoples money. People actually worked for that money. You can't take peoples money and use it on a proven sinking ship. I wonder what they’re going to do and which WMC they’re going to blame when it all falls flat, and like VBS, the money is nowhere to be seen...and in the end, who suffers? Those who can’t afford to loose their pension. It is only a matter of time before the cadre filth steal everything from the PIC and then you know what is coming, don't you? They are going after your private pension funds and your retirement annuities. Get your money out. Now.
