Talks between unions and Eskom collapsed last week after the power utility offered workers 5.3%.

JOHANNESBURG - Eyewitness News can reveal that Eskom has offered workers 7% wage increases amid a wildcat strike and deepening tensions with labour.

While Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan jumped the gun by stating that an agreement had been reached in the wage talks, this is far from the truth as unions only started canvassing members on the 7% on Tuesday night. Last year, Eskom unilaterally implemented 1.5% salary adjustments for workers, leading to a standoff with unions.

It secured staffers between 7% and 7.5% wage hikes, a once-off cash payment of R10,000 and other benefits.

Yeeeepi ... more money for phuza Thursdayz.

You mean “Eskom_SA rewards unlawful striking workers for striking” WTF

Nidlala ngathi yaz

Was that so hard?

Why is eskom doing this they are ungrateful and disrespectful and have a job really, fire them and get white intelligent people to work there who don't have jobs, eskom will become strong again. These unions and bbbeee has failed SA so much.

They should get nothing.

For what exactly. 7% for nonsense non stop power cut?

Hold the country to ransom - get what you want. It is a desperate situation for a broke country.

Wish we could get 7%. Must be nice.

Oh really and where is Eskom going to get the money for this 7% pay increase ? Let us not forget we must pay more for a service we do not get, less power than ever before but pay more for it than ever before. onlyinafrica

'A' Hospitality group employees never received increases for 2 year and had to accept 5% in the 3rd year. NO NEGOTIATION & have to return to work every day. NO choice no option.

Private companies will never pay 7% increases to workers responsible for this fuck up. Appeasing the saboteurs.

An 'illegal, wildcat' strike and the intimidation worked. The time has arrived for the new coalition partners government to come to rewrite Labour Union laws for 2024. This is socialism at its best ... the tail is wagging the dog.

Economic treason

Amazing that terrorism be rewarded by the anc structures, also proven the fact that black unions and workers main objectives are to destroy South Africa's economy and discipline.

A ff wage increase? But we have loadshedding… what a fff JOKE!

A 7% wage increase for Eskom workers is Double corporate SA's average!! ..for providing a critical national service 53% (at stage 6) of the time - while 'demanding' around 15% 😡 The greedy fat cats syndrome runs deep with some unions.

Eskom workers should only be paid for every hour the whole country has electricity. Then they will start working instead of sabotaging the grid

What are they mad .. Fire them !

That's honestly like negotiating with terrorists.

Why don't they just be greatful that they still have a job?

We always knew it would settle at 7% , but the unions love to milk the situation and show their members how much they care!

Who cares at this point?

africaupdates SpokespersonGoK StateHouseKenya private and public sectors must increase salary for its employees in order to manage and survive the increase in goods & fuel across Kenya . Government has to act on this

I heard on the radio that on average 40000 workers earn R700k pa! and they striking! While over 45% of the nation is unemployed 🤷‍♂️

Get ready for another increase in electricity tarriffs. Electricity costs gave increased from less than R1 in 2019 to almost R3 in 2022,

That should be 10%

Increased for what🤨 for more stage 6,7,8,9,10 loadsheddings

If true, they got them by the balls.
