This is the second case of illegal coal swapping in the space of a week, with authorities arresting a coal driver for a similar offence at Camden power station on 23 November.

Eskom has announced that a coal truck driver and their supervisor have been arrested for coal theft at the Matla power station.

It is alleged that the coal swapping occurred at a known coal yard in Mpumalanga, where Bidvest Protea Coin investigators contracted by Eskom detected the truck. The driver and supervisor are employed by Ukusebenza Transport, and Eskom has opened a criminal case against them with the South African Police Service. The truck was also impounded.
