Is SA’s youth unemployment ‘among the highest in the world’? We fact-check the DA’s manifesto claim, with AfricaCheck ElectionCheck

defines the youth as people “between the ages of 14 and 35”.. And according to the agency’s acting chief director for labour statistics, Malerato Mosiane, “benchmarking is done using five-year age groups, so the 35-year-olds will be in the 35- to 39-year age group”.

This is according to the official definition of “unemployed”: people without work who are still looking for work or trying to start a business. But there is no standard definition of “youth”. And comparing unemployment across countries is complicated by factors such as different data collection methods.

“As employment stats are highly dynamic it is not inconceivable that countries could move a rank or two depending on labour market shocks.”, a UN agency, provides data for this age group in 189 countries, territories and areas.

The battle for the youth: DA channels Childish Gambino in new election adThe DA has gone pop in its latest advertisement ahead of the May 8 elections, evoking some imagery from Childish Gambino's 'This is America' hit music video. Childish Gambino?....oh is that what that was Wait I'm confused isn't childish Gambino a famous rapper and also plays in star wars. The DA still needs to work even harder at attacking their detractors' claims that the party is inherently anti-black. THAT is their number one obstacle. Only testimonials from black people will solve that.

BUSINESS MAVERICK: One month before 2019 election, SA economy takes three hits in quick successionThey say that the hits that don’t break your back make you stronger. In fact, it’s more likely that the hits that don’t break your back will, in fact, make you weaker. The news is not entirely as gloomy as it seems, but coming just before the election, one thing is for sure: the incumbent government will not be propelled into the election on a wave of a strong economy. Not only hits, those are big hits, as well tim_cohen. I can't help wondering what S&P are smoking to get all that Ramaphoria....🙄 We're we really expecting a different outcome?
