AFRICA | Eight wounded from gunshots near Sudan sit-in: protest spokesman

Sudanese protestors celebrate after an agreement was reached with the military council to form a three-year transition period.

A witness told AFP that gunshots had been fired near the protest camp outside army headquarters in central Khartoum. A protest leader also said on condition of anonymity that among the eight wounded, three were in serious condition. “We call on everybody to join the sit-in immediately and support the protesters,” the SPA, a group of doctors, engineers and teachers, said in a statement.

Newsdeck: Sudan military council, opposition inch closer to final dealKHARTOUM, May 15 (Reuters) - Sudan's Transitional Military Council (TMC) and the opposition Declaration of Freedom and Change Forces (DFCF) agreed the country's transition period would last for three years, a TMC member said on Wednesday, adding a final deal on the transition would be reached within 24 hours. I knew we were prematurely celebrating Sudan's ostensible 'liberation'. This god-forsaken country will always be the playground of totalitarian, neo-theocratic Islamic military junta. These power hungry devils will never welcome civillian rule. I just knew it.
