Zamalek have been handed a transfer ban by FIFA after failing to pay one of their former players' wages.
On the eve of their crunch CAF cup competition semi-final, one of Egypt's biggest clubs has received yet another transfer ban. This coming weekend, Zamalek will be looking to make it to a second CAF Confederation Cup final when they take on Dreams FC away from home in a second-leg clash. The only other time they were able to progress to the competition's final was in 2019, when they defeated RS Berkane to win the tournament. The Moroccan did not spend a lot of time with the White Knights, though, making just 24 appearances and scoring five goals during his one-year stay in the Egyptian capital.
However, Zamalek had not paid him his wages when he left the club, and the French-born attacker decided to lodge a formal complaint with world football’s governing body FIFA. The forward has been waiting for four years for his unpaid dues. The Switzerland-based institution instructed the five-time African champions to pay Boutaib €2.4 million , with €1.9 million as the initial fine and the rest as late fines., however, Zamalek will look to reach a resolution over the matter prior to the upcoming off-season transfer window presumably so they can be active in the market once again, having done similar when they received a transfer ban last year.
