Editorial | Safa and PSL must put football first | Can we trust the administrators to accept that it is not about their egos, but for the millions of football lovers?

As the virus spread across continents, governments exercised measures to prevent further infections by stopping mass gatherings.

As the world’s most watched sport, football is – in some countries – returning to our screens. Germany’s Bundesliga resumed its season this weekend after having stopped in mid-March.The resumption of football is a welcome relief as many supporters can now watch – albeit on TV only. Games will be played under stringent lockdown rules, with no spectators allowed at the stadiums.

The long-running tiff between the SA Football Association and Premier Soccer League has been bad for the sport.The call that the PSL and Safa work together for the benefit of domestic football – and not personal egos – has been made many times, but with no positive outcome.
