This is the opportunity for the continental football controlling body to re-emerge from the doldrums and clean up its image, which has taken a nosedive in recent times.
Our sincerest hope is that CAF emerges from the conference in Morocco united and speaking with one voice to help grow African football.The age-old power struggle between the Francophone, Arabic and Anglophone groupings belongs in the past and has not done African football any good. We can’t afford the embarrassing shenanigans going on in continental football – from ill-treatment of visiting teams to unprofessional conduct and inadequate facilities.
If African football is to move forward, it needs people like Motsepe to come to the table and play a meaningful role.
