Editorial: Let us wish our republic a happy 25th birthday and in the speeches we give at celebrations, let us tell her to learn from the hard lessons gleaned since the dawn of democracy so that, going forward, she can be a resourceful and successful adult

A country that had designed and nurtured the most evil system since Nazism, and that had been consumed by bloody conflict, was making a peaceful entry into the family of democratic nations.

Twenty-five years later, South Africa’s democracy is still standing strong as the country heads for its sixth general election. Over the past quarter-century, the country has seen noticeable changes. Provision of housing and basic services has been high on the agenda of every administration since 1994, although quality is still a big issue. And although every child has access to education, the standard of tuition received by most poor children leaves much to be desired.

It’s time for a reckoning for Kagame and his Western cheerleadersCOMMENT: A quarter of a century later, it is about time that the role of Kagame and his allies in the Rwandan genocide and the years of violence which followed is properly examined. Give it up already. Have a look at Burundi, the DRC and Uganda. Rwanda is a beacon of light by comparison. I was shocked when Kagame was presented as peacemaker when he was responsible for the Hutu massacres. The UN has ample evidence to try Kagame for genocide- he unfortunately has powerful friends Bullshit.
