A special steering committee seeks to fill urgent gaps in the system in order to fight the coronavirus

The Covid-19 pandemic has exposed the health system gaps in the Eastern Cape and nationally. Countrywide, we have to start looking after the health of the entire population in far more streamlined ways, and in close collaboration with the clinicians and health services teams on the ground.

Together we have established a clinical rapid response Covid-19 steering committee to accelerate and improve the response and action, including intensifying diagnostics and streamlining the referral of patients, the provision of equipment and facilities as well as appointing clinical staff. NMU has already been integrally involved in the Eastern Cape’s response to the pandemic through providing resources such as face shields, ventilators and face masks. The university is also working on screening apps as well as the capturing of data such as comorbidities and is involved in coronavirus research.

Planning ahead, the province needs to be prepared for the worst-case scenario and ensure there are enough beds in hospitals and field hospitals.

‘Up to 80% of people in Eastern Cape likely to get Covid-19’About 80% of people in the Eastern Cape are likely to contract Covid-19. You have to wonder where he gets this figure of 80% from? EC has a population of around 7 million, so if 80% get infected, and 1% die (his figures), then he is anticipating 56000 deaths in EC alone, whereas other models talk about 36 to 40k nationwide... No country in the world Whatever the bullshit arround this plandemic is clearer by the day. 80% get it, 99.9% of the 80% will get sniffles or not any symtoms at all & the 00.1% that get seriously ill will have underlying conditions that make getting the 'FLU' fatal like happens every year.

As ICUs fill up in Western Cape, some lockdown measures may have to be reconsideredThe substantial relaxation of SA’s lockdown measures from today was probably the right decision. But with ICU capacity in the Western Cape already stretched, and infections rising rapidly, one or two measures may need to be reconsidered, argues Marcus Low South Africa didn't encounter first hand experience. We're better knowledgeable than those in Europe or elsewhere. Never our scenario shall be comparable and truly so to face the consequences of our decision but not to the extent envisaged.
