Easter tragedy in Eastern Cape as violence and crashes claim multiple lives

Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg reported that on Friday evening, SAPS officers patrolling KwaZakhele noticed a white Toyota Quantum minibus with bullet holes at the corners of Daku and Salumntu streets.Easter festivities in the Eastern Cape took a tragic turn, leaving a trail of devastation. Nine lives were lost in road accidents across the province, while separate shooting incidents claimed two lives and left three others critically injured.

The captain said that another male was also reportedly shot. Both injured individuals were taken to the hospital, and no further information was available.Community mourns beloved business ownerMbongwana said: "One woman died on the scene while a 16-year-old girl was taken to hospital for treatment. The deceased was identified as 23-year-old Keziah Kleinbooi."Janse Van Rensburg said the motive was suspected to be gang-related and the suspects were unknown, but an investigation was ongoing.The same day witnessed a string of fatal road accidents across the province, adding to the Easter weekend death toll.
