Early oxygen use contributed to more recoveries says research unit

South Africa's COVID-19 cases have passed 500,000. Over 68% of those have recovered. What's contributing to the high recovery rate? CourtesyJOHANNESBURG - The early administration of oxygen contributed to lower fatalities and recoveries in COVID-19 patients, according to the Clinical HIV Research Unit at Wits University.

"We adopted the use of a form of oxygen called high-flow nasal oxygen, which is a step down from ventilation. That's helping less people die", said the research unit's Francesca Conradie.Despite the positive numbers in terms of recoveries, people are urged to maintain safe practices to avoid infection.

Conradie also added that social-distancing, wearing masks, and washing hands are the only real measures people have to protect themselves.But over 68% of those infected have recovered, that's over 342,000.
