Hawks KZN spokesperson Simphiwe Mhlongo says he was the sole member of a company that supplied musical instruments to the Department of Arts and Culture from 2013 to 2014."During that process, the accused charged the department a VAT. That VAT was supposed to be declared to the South African Revenue Services.
"He did not do that and during that period, the accused was supposed to submit the returns, showing that the company has done some work, but he submitted a nil return. "As a result, the prejudice to the South African Revenue Service was R1 228 405.42, which is another count of fraud."Mhlongo says the SA Revenue Service looked into the matter.
"They found out these malpractices and a case of fraud was opened at Point Police Station and a docket was allocated to the Hawks members from Durban Serious Commercial crime who arrested him and charged him for fraud."
