“What happened is that the league sent fixtures for next season already and on those fixtures, there is a DSTV name on them and that confirms that they will be the new sponsors,” a team official said to SowetanLIVE.
“The league was anticipating that the new season will start soon but it seems there will be a delay now, but I can tell you DSTV looks to be the principal sponsor.” This after Absa confirmed in June that their 13-year relationship with the league will end at the end of the season which was completed last weekend.
DSTV had stiff competition from betting firm Betway, Bidvest Group, and Telkom. DSTV, a subsidiary of MultiChoice already owns broadcasting rights of the PSL in a deal worth billions.Another insider who worked closely with Absa during their PSL sponsorship confirmed and said the league will now be called DSTV Premiership.
“It is not Bidvest as many have speculated or Betway but it is DSTV. It will now be called DSTV Premiership.”
