Mamelodi Sundowns sensation Cassius Mailula scored what turned out to be the only goal in the match against Orlando Pirates, despite close attention from defender Innocent Maela during their epic DStv Premiership encounter at Orlando Stadium yesterday..
The 1-0 win, courtesy of the young Cassius Mailula, who has now scored eight goals in 14 matches in all competitions, took Sundowns’ points tally to 55 from a possible 63.Mailula is grabbing his fair share of the headlines for Sundowns, and rightfully so, as the 21-year-old is having a season to remember.
Pirates blew hot and cold in the first half and failed to create any clear-cut scoring opportunities. It was only midway through the second half that the home side began to stamp their authority on the match. The champions still have 27 points to play for from their nine remaining matches and will need 16 from those to match and possibly better their 71 points from 2015/16.
They will host Richards Bay in the last 32 round of the Nedbank Cup at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria on Tuesday, before welcoming Sudanese giants Al Hilal at the same venue for match day one of the Champions League on Saturday. After that, the Brazilians will hit the road to Cameroon for a confrontation with Coton Sport on February 17 at the Roumdé Adjia Stadium in Garoua.
With th e HUGE suport from the referees....
But they're still not capable of filling stadiums like Chiefs and to a lesser extent Pirates.
Obviously 👌
