A doctor named Khumalo has decided to volunteer in clinics and go door-to-door to help chronic and non-mobile patients. She helps TB and HIV patients take their medication and even collects and delivers medication to those who can't go to the clinic.

I was losing my mind, so I decided to get up and volunteer in clinics and go out door-to-door to help chronic and non-mobile patients . I help TB and HIV patients take their medication, and I even collect and deliver some to patients who can’t go and collect their medication on the appointment date.Khumalo completed her medical degree at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2019 and did her community service at Hlabisa Hospital in 2022.

“What we are going through as doctors nationally should never happen in future. More than anything, this has taught us to be patient and explore other avenues within the health sector,” she adds. “A lot of women in the rural community find out about breast cancer when it’s too late, because of lack of awareness. experts in that space from clinic level right up to tertiary institutions, such as Dora Nginza Hospital.
