The new fuel price comes into effect on 7 February.

JOHANNESBURG - From Wednesday, South African motorists will be forced to fork out almost R1 more for fuel, as increases make a comeback for the first time this year.

After a three-month increase reprieve, the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy announced that a litre of both 93 and 95 ULP and LRP petrol will cost motorists 75 cents more, diesel will increase by between 70 cents and 73 cents, and illuminating paraffin will increase by 53 cents a litre. The department attributed the fuel price increases to a hike in crude oil prices, which impacted on the average international prices for petrol, diesel, and illuminating paraffin.

The depreciation of the rand against the US dollar also contributed to the increase in the local fuel price.
