Courtesy #DStv403 JOHANNESBURG - eNCA explores the differences between self-quarantine, self-isolation and social distancing. South Africa will be under lockdown at midnight on Thursday, it is important to know exactly what is happening and why. COVID-19: Self-isolation means that you have already contracted the virus and are showing symptoms. You are isolated to not infect any other individuals. Quarantine is for people who have been exposed to the virus and don’t have any symptoms. Being in self-quarantine doesn’t necessarily mean you have COVID-19 symptoms however it is critical to monitor your health for 14 days and stay away from the public. Social distancing is increasing the physical space between yourself and others to avoid the spread of the virus. Social distancing requires maintenance of at least 1 metre between yourself and another individual, especial if the other person ios coughing or sneezing. The lockdown was announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Monday as a measure to combat the spread of COVID-19. COVID-19: “This is a decisive measure to save millions of South Africans from infection and save the lives of hundreds of thousands of people.” South Africa has 554 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
