Eating the right foods could help with the management of depression. Helen Foster takes a look at the scientific evidence. | News24Wellness

Increasingly, it's being shown that what you eat dictates how happy - or otherwise - you feel. Last year, a study by scientists in Spain confirmed the link between food and depression, and it's not the only one.

"In the past two years, scientists from around the world - including Australia, Japan, the UK, Norway and Greece - have published studies showing a link between diet and mood," says Professor Felice Jacka, from Deakin University's School of Medicine."In these studies we always see the same sort of results. When it comes to mood disorders, a healthy diet is protective and an unhealthy diet is a risk factor.

The reasons for this connection between diet and depression are not conclusive, but understanding is growing.
