The reasons for this national meltdown are varied, but largely determined by the peculiar, obsessive relationship the British public has with its royal family, and its difficulty with discussion of issues regarding race. ome secretary Priti Patel and the boxer Amir Khan have said in reaction to the Megxit race furore that the UK is “not racist”, that people of colour can “get on” in the UK and have a good life.

There was Philippa of Hainault in the 14th century, who was the queen-consort of Edward III and descended from Moors. As described in historical accounts she was quite beautiful and her skin “brown all over”. There was also Queen Charlotte, who became queen at 17 by marrying George III of England in 1761.
