Day 100 of lockdown: Nurse describes fight against COVID-19 eNCA

In March, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the country would be under a three-week lockdown.

That was extended several times and the country is now under Level 3, with the economy and schooling reopening in phases.Like many other nurses, Rich Sicina prays before his shifts at the Thelle Mogoerane Hospital begin. This is because they're on the frontline of the country’s fight against COVID-19 and worried about their safety.

He remains positive, but even more anxious now than before, particularly because he has buried colleagues who died of COVID-19.“Remember to try to curb the spread, we don’t allow visitors. So if you are admitted, you are on your own," said Sicina. "You are with nurses who are discouraged. Who are forced to work even if they test positive. You will be lonely until you go to your grave”.With this war against the virus far from over, Sicina says all he can do is continue praying while trying to save lives.Help protect your loved ones by sharing this officialThe NICD has another Clinician Hotline to improve #COVID19 communication and support for healthcare providers. The Clinician Hotline is 0800 11 1131, operating 24 hrs.
