Former Proteas fast bowler Dale Steyn appears to have had a change of heart on Kwena Maphaka’s Indian Premier League debut.After getting hammered all over the park by the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Steyn was quick to remind the teenager that he was now playing with the big boys.
“Maphaka realizing the difference between U19 and the PRO league. Baptism of fire,” Dale Steyn tweeted on Wednesday. After the tweet, the Proteas leading test wicket taker received backlash from many fans. Some felt the 40-year-old former fast bowler was not sympathetic towards potential successor.“I woke up feeling for Kwena Maphaka today, but I know he’s surrounded by some amazing people at MI and he’s gonna be absolutely fine,” Dale Steyn tweeted.
“His first experience, regardless of result or performance, should still be the most amazing cricket experience he’s ever had.was quick to post a message of encouragement for Maphaka.“Keep your head up Champ! Kwena Maphaka I’m sure you will definitely bounce back and don’t let this one-off game make you start to doubt yourself. it’s a great challenge for you and you will only get better as the tournament goes on,” Bravo said on Instagram.
