John Steenhuisen says Ramaphosa should not view the virus crisis as a choice between saving lives or livelihoods, but try to find a way to save both.

The Democratic Alliance on Thursday evening said it noted the intention of President Cyril Ramaphosa and his cabinet to extend the nationwide lockdown until the end of April to curb the spread of Covid-19 in South Africa.

“We believe it is a great mistake to think in terms of lives versus livelihoods. This is a false dilemma. Rather, the difficult trade-offs to be made are between lives lost or damaged by Covid-19, and lives lost or damaged by the drastic measures to contain its spread. “The absence of empirical data and modelling make it very difficult to simply agree that a lockdown extension may be an effective means to curb the spread of Covid-19. The resulting economic fallout now means that it is not only lives which are threatened by the virus, but livelihoods by our economic and financial collapse as a result of further lockdown regulations.

So the DA is saying economy is more important than human life?

Not only DA but WMC is in pains..their economy is falling!!!! 😅😅😅😅😅

Then continue spreading virus, which comes first lives or jobs.

to save jobs and have lot of deaths?

What abt People's lives ?

Tell them to go hang

Other countries in the world have done exactly this but now people are acting surprised at the suggestion

Keep quiet DA

jsteenhuisen if this is true, this is quite irresponsible. What is the DA contributing to the Solidarity Fund? Based on the impact of Covid-19 around the world , we should carefully consider every step we make, firstly in terms of saving people and lastly the economy.

Tell them they must govern this country before they make commands. Who's jobs must be saved.? Who will work if we're all dead.? Tell DA to go to hell! This country might be closed for 3months if all requires and they'll do nothing about that. Except that Cyril is their man.

They should also contribute 1/3 of their salaries to solidarity fund

If msunery was the name of the organisation

And risk lives of poor black people. What happens to the economy when the workforce js ill and dying? Does the DA care to about that? Or they think black people are still disposable like they were during slavery , colonialism and apartheid?

DA worried about 'lack of clear and accurate' Covid-19 stats across SAThe DA has raised concerns about the lack of provincial and regional detailed profiling of coronavirus infections in the country. What are the Dr’s saying? We can’t take a journalist reporting on such stats. At last!!!! Someone is asking questions!!! I’ve been saying it for a week now. DA to seek legal advice on challenging ‘race criteria’ for Covid-19 reliefThe party's interim leader argued against the application of BBBE codes and the prioritisation of disenfranchised minorities, calling it 'unconscionable, racialised and most likely illegal too'. If the funding is disaster funding...it cannot be allocated by race. If they are Regular Govt loans...BBBEE usual rules apply... It is not legal to deny emergency funding based on race. *I believe there was a 96 court ruling. * Matshabasikolo jsteenhuisen is finding it hard to be relevant during this LockdownSA. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Why are we doing this? Do we perhaps have a leg to stand on? Any legal opinion sought from state attorney before departmentally implementing BBBEE during Covid19inSA?
