As the race to the polls for local government elections heats up, racial tension in Phoenix after recent civil unrest is being used as a means of campaigning for political parties in KwaZulu-Natal.

On Tuesday, reaction to the DA election posters were put up in Phoenix, north of Durban. Racial tensions within the community there eruptedDA provincial chair Dean Macpherson said the posters were going up all over the city and the intention was not to create further division among residents.

“It's a matter of fact that the ANC has called people all over the city of Durban racist. We disagree with this sentiment. We agree that they were heroes. They were the blue line between absolute anarchy and the sheer lack of law enforcement during July's unrest. The citizens of this city were heroes.”

He said the DA in no way condoned lawlessness, which included the shootings and killings in Phoenix. “We've been very clear that anyone who has transgressed the law must go through the judicial process. The law must take its course and we see where that process goes.” Phoenix brothers Dylan and Ned Govender and fellow resident Jeetendra Jaikissoon, who have been charged with the murder of an Amaoti resident in July.

ANC slams DA over Phoenix election posters with racial slurTHE ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has slammed the DA for putting up election posters with a racial slur in Phoenix, Durban. Thirty six people were killed in the area during the violent unrest in July Phoenix being demonised fir self defence. Look into the politics to understand why. To don’t see any racial slurs from the DA here Contestation of the bourgeoisie and petit bourgeoisie, same soup in different dishes, their contestation is about who can manage capitalism better than the other.

Sparks fly over DA’s ‘racist’ Phoenix posters - The Mail & GuardianANC says the opposition party is using the racial tensions in Phoenix to garner votes Bayafana bonke Ironic of the perpetrators of Life Esidimeni and Marikana to claim the DA has 'no respect for human life'. Those posters are insensitive. But EFF + ANC have both already used the incident for political points, you didn't complain then. Try to hold everyone to the same standards. What the DA is doing is just disgusting. This supposedly 'most diverse party' seems to have given up even trying to get support from the Black majority, so openly show their racist disregard for Blacks indiscriminately massacred in Phoenix. /2
