The DA has admitted that its chances of retaining the Western Cape rely on a high voter turnout in the province.

Independent surveys project the party may get less than 50%, and DA CEO Jonathan Moakes told the Sunday Times that"all indications" pointed to an outright majority"provided every single DA voter turns out".

Public differences among DA leaders over policy direction on issues such as BBBEE and affirmative action, and its spat with former Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille are some of the issues said to have alienated voters. "I cannot comment on internal polling, but I will state that we are of the view that companies such as Ipsos and Markdata use flawed methodology and have a history of under-counting the DA," he said.

Though they were uncomfortable about the Western Cape, the well-placed sources also said the party's polling indicated that it was likely to increase support for the first time in KwaZulu-Natal, especially in the eThekwini region, where voters unhappy with the ANC were said to be gravitating towards the DA, the EFF and the IFP.

Election poll predicts controversial 11% drop in ANC supportA poll conducted by the SA Institute of Race Relations (IRR) predicts a massive drop in national support for the ruling ANC and spells trouble for the DA in the Western Cape. I love every minute of this I hate the ANC with all my heart . If the Nationalist Party could come back I would rather vote for them! The reality that must've confronted is that these comrades have destroyed South Africans in a way they never thought. Those who don't agree with them as AceMagashule said: 'You will walk alongside your shoes'. If you're Mosotho you'll understand.

These are the provinces with the best – and worst – job numbers over the past 10 yearsThe DA-governed Western Cape saw an unemployment decline of 2.2%, but it wasn't the province which saw the sharpest decline. BISouthAfrica I'm sorry, but to quote narrow unemployment rates as an indication of the 'best & worst jobs numbers' is a joke. Limpopo's expanded rate is over 38% - a full 22 percentage points higher than the 16.5% in the table. Those people are also unemployed, they've just given up looking. BISouthAfrica This 'narrow' unemployment data excludes people who have given up looking for a job. More relevant is 'broad' unemployment, which includes those who've given up looking. DA-run Western Cape has by far the lowest at 23%, which is 14 percentage point lower than SA's average of 37%.
