Should a ban similar to that imposed in Italy be imposed here, the effects would leave several industries, and the economy as a whole, in ruins.

Should the coronavirus intensify to levels similar to those in Italy, which has had to impose a travel ban, the South African economy would face widespread ruin, an economist has warned. A usually thriving tourist economy and a favourite destination for many travellers, including South Africans, Italy has been reeling from the impact of the respiratory disease, with the death toll reportedly soaring by 133 in a day to 366.

The total number of infections is said to have leapt 25% to 7,375 from 5,883. South Africa, meanwhile, has seen its number of infections jump to seven, after four more members of the group which travelled to Italy and among which the first three cases were diagnosed, tested positive. “If this was to happen to SAA, which is surviving on state bailouts, the situation could hurt all other local and foreign airlines,” said Schussler.“Trains would come to a halt; guesthouses would close and events management companies would also be affected. We should remember that the tourism contribution to the South African GDP is bigger than that of gold and coal mining combined,” added Schussler.

“The biggest effects are not likely to come from a downturn in local economic activity, but rather from constrained demand for South African goods and services internationally – reduced export demand. There is currently a lot of global panic and fear about deaths due to the coronavirus.

Don’t blame Covid , 25 years of ANC “incompetence”Virus has destroyed the SA economy already

No. cANCer did that already. Nothing for the virus to do here

The white man's economy can't be touched.

So people must die for the already destroyed economy Why do we deserve this government

Cause it affects European so rather risk everyone for money nonsense

What Economy the one that is already in ICU on survival drips. RSA must focus on saving people's lives they will rebuild this Economy.

Nothing compared to the corruption.

Now I started to admire Trump, he can do anything to protect Americans, he told those who visited China to remained there, now SA want to bring few people from China to infect millions of South Africans. They always worried about the white man's profit. Economy.

So SA will perform on Corpses? How pathetic, we shall live. How did we survive before

I thought the ANC had already destroyed our economy.🤔

yooh

But will kill blacks. Useless government. Investors don't vote.

It's all because SA economic depends on travelers even when they bring Coronavirus it doesn't matter as long as we have their money

TSEK

They rather destroy their citizens

Whose economy is it anyways

Considering the 7.7 million people with HIV you should make better decisions coz the economy will automatically suffer after majority of the people get the virus. How do u charge R1200 for a TEST! Some people cant even afford basic needs. WTF?!

Lol..they want us dead..but I am glad, its starting with them first, how could they advocate for profit over life, I mean, French,Italians,English,Chinese, must stay at home, ban those routes for now..

You can't have an economy with dead people

Money above lives

What a stupid assessment. There will be no economy left when this thing wipes out half or the entire population 🤔

Not only SA but the world. Anyway, Safety first!

Yes if you are stupid like tito_mboweni and myanc rather temporary rather the quagmire drzwelimkhize is putting us into, we need to arrest the spread now to recover first later. We are already on recession and looming downgrade.
