The recent petrol price increase saw the price of 95 unleaded cost more than the minimum hourly wage aggravating the cost of living crisis.

The Department of Energy and Mineral Resources recently announced increases to the price of 95 unleaded petrol. From Wednesday, 4 September the price of 95 Unleaded increased to R24.96 in coastal regions and R25.68 in Gauteng, according to

In a statement from February 2023, the CCMA said: “The Department of Employment and Labour has also published the new National Minimum Wage for South Africa.”, with effect 1 March 2023. The new minimum also outlines the minimum wage for workers in certain sectors,” the statement said.
