Presidency says social media exchanges are ‘unbecoming’

Trade union federation Cosatu says President Cyril Ramaphosa should call finance minister Tito Mboweni to order after a social media spat with Gauteng premier David Makhura over the scrapping of e-tolls.

The Gauteng Cosatu comments follow a disagreement between Makhura and Mboweni which played out on Twitter late last week. Makhura said he had engaged with Ramaphosa and transport minister Fikile Mbalula on the issue of e-tolls, and he had referred the matter to the president to make a final resolution. The presidency said in a statement that Ramaphosa had mandated Mbalula, Mboweni and Makhura to submit“The president says such exchanges on social media are unbecoming of their high offices and fail to provide the leadership required in this instance,” the presidency said.
