Contaminated WFP porridge suspected of killing four people in Uganda

The UN World Food Programme has stopped its distribution of Super Cereal as well as sugar and cooking oil to the Karamoja region of Uganda pending investigations into the death of four people after consuming the porridge.

A child died in Karamoja on Wednesday after eating the suspected contaminated food. The baby was the grandchild of the first victim who died after consuming the WFP porridge, Daily Monitor reported. Last week reports of people with upset stomachs came in after the WFP, the lead agency in fighting hunger in Karamoja, distributed the porridge flour to 120 households in the region.

While the WFP has removed the suspected contaminated food product from its stores, many of those already given the flour have refused to hand it back for further investigation.
