Nokeri arrived in New Orleans in the US, last week to participate in the 71st instalment of the beauty contest which is billed for the New Orleans Morial Convention Center in Louisiana on Saturday night. The event will be broadcast live on 1 Magic from 3am on Sunday. and Miss Universe Predications have the reigning South African queen as one of the front-runners and she is a hot favourite with Miss Universe fans and followers.
In a statement on Thursday Nokeri, who is travelling with her parents Moses and Betty, the Miss SA team and her coach, said she was going into the pageant with confidence after getting advice from former Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi. It has been wonderful meeting my fellow contestants face to face and getting to know them. My preparations are on track and I’m working hard. Zozi [Tunzi] has given me advice that I have taken to heart – to be confident and to be my authentic self.
“I also appreciate the wonderful support from all South Africans – I will be flying the flag high when I walk onto the Miss Universe stage and I am determined to give it my all, just as I did when I entered the Miss SA pageant.” The current Miss Universe is Harnaaz Sandhu from India. Contestants from 84 countries are taking part this year which will be hosted by US television personality Jeannie Mai and Miss Universe 2012, Olivia Culpo. South Africa has had a successful run in the pageant with previous winners Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters crowned Miss Universe in 2017, Tamaryn Green, first runner-up in 2018, Tunzi, crowned Miss Universe 2019 and Lalela Mswane, the second runner-up in 2021.
