'Concealing ownership of assets': Prosecutors seek 12-year sentences for 'Panama Papers' accused

Isis Soto , prosecutor against organised crime, arrives at the court of justice in Panama City. 27 people will be tried starting on 8 June 2024, for the ' Panama Papers' case, eight years after this scandal broke out. The two are accused of money laundering in the" Panama Papers" tax evasion scandal.The prosecution sought 12-year prison sentences on Wednesday for the founders of a now-defunct law firm at the centre of the so-called" Panama Papers" tax evasion scandal.

The leaked trove of 11.5 million files from the law firm Mossack Fonseca implicated influential figures including billionaires, politicians and sports stars. Many of those caught up in the scandal put forward reasons to explain their offshore presence and said they did not act illegally.
