Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Jabulani Mendu has stated the popular co-coaching trend in South African football is unsustainable.
Following the success of Manqoba Mnqithi, Rulani Mokwena and Steve Khompela at Sundowns, the likes of Royal AM have now followed suit by appointing Dan Malesela, Khabo Zondo and Abram Nteo as the club's three joint head coaches."Is it working at Sundowns or are we fooled by the results," Mendu tells"I think this method of co-coaching came from a chairman not having the balls to tell one coach that he is an assistant coach.
"So their co-coaching appointment was strategically forced because Royal AM didn't want to chase away a coach who was already signed to a contract. "We all know Dan is the head coach, Nteo is going to be an assistant and Khabo is just going to be there like Steve Khompela at Sundowns."At Sundowns the results make it appear that it's working. You hear stories from the Chloorkop corridors that all is not well."Look, I'm not taking anything away from the three Sundowns coaches, they've done a wonderful job, and I think they are three of the best coaches in the country.
"I just don't understand this thing but I just hope for Mamkhize's sake it will work because she has invested a lot into our game, and ever since she arrived our game has changed."
Ooh yeah, unless someone has a final word
