City commences Phase 2 of the Muizenberg Huts Refurbishment Project

The next phase in the renovation of Muizenberg’s beach huts officially kicked off this week and is scheduled for completion by late November. Forming part of the Muizenberg Huts Refurbishment Project, this endeavour builds on the efforts of the Friends of the Muizenberg Huts.

Following the successful completion of Phase 1, which focused on refurbishing the beach huts at Surfers Corner, the Recreation and Parks Department, with support from the Corporate Project Programme and Portfolio Management Department, has now embarked on Phase 2. This phase involves the rejuvenation of the beach huts located on the Muizenberg East Beach Side, with an allocated budget of R5.9 million.Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis expressed enthusiasm for this collaborative initiative with the Friends of the Muizenberg Huts, explaining that the primary objective is to preserve the iconic symbol of Cape Town’s tourism legacy, an integral part of Muizenberg’s rich cultural and historical heritage.

‘Through thoughtful design, we will ensure that these iconic huts continue to be a symbol of the area’s charm and character for generations to come. We look forward to working closely with the community and stakeholders throughout this project to create a vibrant and sustainable beachfront destination for locals and visitors alike,’ he said.Phase 2 encompasses the refurbishment of 26 double huts and 10 single huts.
