As this year’s Cape Town Cycle Tour draws near, the Chapman’s Peak area sees a surge in activity as cyclists prepare for the upcoming event scheduled for Sunday, 10 March.

With increased activity along the pass and incidents such as the one witnessed on Monday, motorists and cyclists are urged to be patient and tolerant of one another.A cyclist identified as Brent Hubert is currently in the ICU with severe head trauma after colliding with a motorbike, as reported by, provided an update on Hubert’s condition, stating that although he remains in a serious condition, his vital signs are stable.

Eyewitnesses of the incident indicated that the motorcyclist involved had overtaken a vehicle illegally, leading to the collision. The identity of the motorcyclist remains unknown but police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk said that police were investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving. In a separate incident before Christmas, a cyclist was struck by an alleged drunk driver in Glencairn, Cape Town, during an early morning training ride.
