A week since the motor industry opened its doors, vehicle sales and repairs are subdued

In terms of footfall at dealers, trade is still very subdued and buyers aren’t scrambling to test drive the latest models. The new normal: customers are required to sanitise their hands and have a temperature reading before entering this dealership. Picture: SUPPLIED As for car servicing and repairs, one week down the line business was still very slow but this is not unexpected, said Pieter Niemand, national director of the Motor Industry Workshop Association which represents nearly 2,600 independent workshops.

Then buy now, because car prices are set to spikeSome price increases are imminent, like BMW, which according to one dealer is expected to hike prices by 9% across all its models, except the 5 Series, on June 1. Must be very brave to buy a car now. Unless of course you loaded I don't think that 9% is crazy in these difficult times. I'm gonna go out there and get myself two new 5 Series' since its price is not going. They can keep hiking prices. We no longer care. Who need a new car under Lockdown restrictions.
