The KwaZulu-Natal government has labelled the move to cancel SAA flights in and out of Durban economic sabotage.

Durban - Nomusa Dube-Ncube, MEC for economic development, tourism and environmental affairs, said the decision would devastate the province’s economy.

From Saturday, local and international routes to Durban, Port Elizabeth and East London will end and those to Cape Town will be reduced. The announcement was made by Les Matuson and Siviwe Dongwana, the joint business rescue practitioners for the embattled airline, earlier this month. On Friday, Dube-Ncube said: “The KZN Economic Council, KZN Growth Coalition, various chambers, stakeholders in the tourism industry and many other sectors of our economy fear KZN’s vision of becoming a Gateway to Africa and the world would never be realised.”

Maybe they can walk their fat arses from Dbn to Ctn...

I turn to agree with you on this one, this will lead to downfall of Durban tourism

That's because they want first class service for free. First they must pay ethekweni debt.

It is true,economic sabotaged is

KhandaniM ..treating the SAA and other SOCs narrowly as household entities with mere cost centers and revenue streams and ignore their impactful multiplier effects and positive spillovers you'll take decisions of closing routes and negatively disrupting (sabotaging) the economy! Saddening!

0h please - there are so many quality carriers going to and from Durban - who needs SAA

uyabavula uprime minister lamaxoki

They should have just cancelled all their international routes and continue with their domestic routes until they sort out their mess.

Government blaming government wat a joke

Economic sabotage is what myanc did to that airline, and to the whole country too. There are airlines that are already picking up the slack from SAA, we cannot inject billions to flog a dead horse.

I don’t see how this is economic sabotage. What is the point of running the route and lose money in the process? The problem with unschooled politicians is that they just run their mouths even where it is not necessary to do so. Morning re tough decision ahead.

If the route is making money for the airline, indeed it's economic sabotage, if the route is not making money, then one must understand, business is about profit.

The KZN “government”. Run by ... Who have been in charge of flysaa since when So the MYANC is responsible for the economic sabotage of the MYANC KZN branch. Sounds about right infighting

There other airlines last I heard.

And Sihle the premier of that province is talking about UNITY,what is he smoking?

_JS_Bond_ The politicians teavel for free on SAA , and by cancelling this route will result in politicians having to pay for their ticket on other airlines

There are many other profitable airlines that service that route so KZN government must take a seat and stop talking nonsense

What would you call the theft for all these years?

My Fok Marlize. Not in your wildest dreams will regional SAA flights being cancelled cause any harm to the KZN economy. There are other airlines who have already soaked up the passengers. Life goes on, good bye SAA.

Im sure it will quickly replaced by other airlines. If there is an opportunity to provide a service they will and will cost the taxpayers boggerall.

SAA keeps financials under wrapsSAA dares not publish its financial statements of the past two years because it would almost certainly be liquidated if it did, Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan has told Parliament. Wonder if normally citizens running a business can get away with this ? Then how is DBSA funding SAA without financial statements? So, break the law to keep a SOE alive? If SAA cannot be solvent on the basis of it’s balance sheet, then I cannot see how business rescue is appropriate.
