Can the fourth estate be impartial? asks TimSpiritMolobi

How could a political journalist disclose his allegiance? Is he going to be impartial in his reporting?

The same argument has been put forward about sports journalists and their allegiance to football clubs, for example. We grow up supporting sports clubs and political parties not knowing that one day we will work in the same environment or industry with these parties and clubs. If you grew up supporting Orlando Pirates, do you suddenly stop supporting them just because you write about them? Are you going to be fair in your reporting when you cover them? Do you disclose your allegiance to the club to your readers or do you include a disclaimer?
