With Bafana Bafana well in control of their group in the race to the 2022 World Cup, head coach Hugo Broos has cautioned his charges avoid implosion in their remaining to qualifying matches.
With the focus firmly on doing the job at home in the penultimate fixture against Zimbabwe on November 11, Broos is hoping to meet the Black Stars away with Bafana still commanding the lead. “Maybe we can do something there, with the match of Sudan in the mind from months ago, that it can never happen [again]. If we start against Ghana with a point ahead, we’ll fight till we die, that’s for sure.”The Belgian was referring to events of March, when Bafana needed a win or a draw against Sudan, yet failed in their mission to qualify for next year’s Afcon finals in Cameroon. The defeat to the Sudanese cost Broos’ predecessor Molefi Ntseki his job.
“Little by little I found the group, which I will work [on] in the next months and maybe years. But we are still looking for better players because still we have some weaknesses in our [team]. Certainly it should be a miracle that, after two months’ work, that immediately we have a fantastic team; this is impossible.”
